BY THE WAY:

Woof woof! Anyone else hating signing up for spring classes?

When You See Someone Else's Project & You Think "OH SHIT THAT'S AWESOME"

I liked a lot of the more artistic websites-- it made me think about the use of flash player and different design and design layouts that I could've use or that were really just freaking awesome.

I really enjoyed Chris's use of layout on his website: http://www.unm.edu/~cfodge/, and it made me wish that we had some options or alternatives to using Dream Weaver (which turned out to be sort-of helpful, but not really) (haha).

Dan definitely had the most organized/professional website of the class, though I'm not much of the business-y looking websites, it was well done! (http://www.unm.edu/~dvance/)

I would have to say Marcus's website was probably my favorite, he used a sweet song on the homepage and the color, layout, and flash players all work really well together-- check it out: http://www.unm.edu/~mmarti25/.

And yeah :) so, everyone did awesome, as so the title goes. Have a great break all! CIAO CIAO<3

Where Have All The Flowers Gone?

I once believed that I was a dog person.

I also once believed that the equation to "happiness" was definable, achievable, stable, and practical. And I'm pretty sure that at some point in every one of our lives, we really, truly --with all of our heart and soul-- trust that society has built this concept of "happinesss" in order to protect us and teach us what is basic and important to live. And important in general.

 +  +  =  Survival )

But what not all people understand is that, unlike the highlighted adjectives and small icons above, Happiness is not obvious and the future is uncertain. Kind of like how it would be incorrect to say,

All skies are blue,
All grass is green,
All dogs are good
& all cats, are mean.

Yet, what's possibly the most interesting idea in all this, is that people actually try to make sense of human emotion, they try to make the uncertain understandable ...which is utter nonsense. Below I have listed a few examples of the websites I came across in search of polls and surveys for Happiness. Yes, it is no surprise that most people after all do believe in my "happiness" equation-- "house, money, and education is survival."

http://www.stlouisfed.org/publications/re/articles/?id=1860

I must let you know, Dear Reader, I do myself have a home (though very small) and money (though only to live) and I am also fairly educated (though never enough it seems). & of course I still do find these basic values important. I'm not as much of a savage as you are assuming, I hope. However, I'd like some one to prove to me how a home and money and education is fulfilling, truly bringing happiness at it's finest, without friendship, altruism, or love. As I feel, one of the greatest, most noticeably giving women of her time, Mother Teresa, once said:

"Loneliness is the most terrible poverty."

With that said, I leave you with a question I suppose-- what is your equation to happiness, or, what are the things that make you happy? And, if you were the writer of a dictionary, how would you define happiness for other people in a more universal way?

(Space Monkey Moment)

"Captain!... I think she's gone overboard!"

OCHO

All you need to know is that I'm extraordinarily overwhelmed by this weeks projects/papers for my other classes. And now I wish I was an octopus:

My mother did always say if evolution was the way of life-- woman would have six eyes and eight arms by now. Hahahaha! Ok that wasn't that funny.

Fall Break! Fall Break! Fall Break!

:D

Yes, I've thought a thousand times (and maybe still more) about what this website should look like. But to be honest, the further we get with our in class work-- the more I am afraid that I might not have enough content to actually build a website at all. Maybe I do actually. And maybe I am just stressed out from midterms and I'm thinking too much ...oi.

So, thoughts on my website:

You guys have already seen some links that I liked, in my last post, so mostly what I have figured out is that I want a pre-page to my homepage. Perhaps I shall be working on taking that image for that hyperlink soon.

Anyway! Tomorrow is my last day of class for this first half of the semester. I have a big photo project I just finished printing and posting this morning and now that our test is done for C&J_279, I'm going to go get a seasonal latte. Fuck yeeeah!

Hope everyone has a good Fall Break at the university! I am looking forward to NOT focusing on anything except carving pumpkins, bonfires, and hiking trips.

Possibility vs. Probability

Designing a web page will all apparently happen in my head-- in comparison to it happening through Dream Weaver. Possible? Yes. Probable? No.

Right now I've got a lot going on in; between my Digital Imaging course, Media Writing, Aerobics, History of Photography, and Web Design class... I honestly feel like my head is about to explode with information especially since midterms are all next week.

WEEEE!

None the less! I'm still on the web every day and looking at sites to gather ideas to build upon for these upcoming weeks. Mostly (hate to be boring and all) I've just been on photography & film web pages... the occasional YouTube as well... and CNN... whatever I've been on the internet a lot actually... but here are some Photographers websites that I enjoy and would like to be more alike.

Tada:

www.joonsworld.no
www.timwalkerphotography.com
www.albertcoviedo.com
www.bottlebellphotography.com
elenakalisphoto.com/#home
www.davehillphoto.com

Really loving the black and white photos from Dave Hill especially.

Anyway, that's all I have time for folks! CIAO CIAO!

Construction Work

I hate to inform those of you who have been looking at my website in progress that "Ze Most Awesome Page Ever (Taking over Le World one page at a time)" shall no longer be in place. Instead, I'm going to start le construction of my professional website for my photography.

Examples of my images and simple layouts that I might use (using tables and <td> tags) are as shown at this link:

http://www.unm.edu/~maebeth/pages/index%20one.html

Personally, I'm not impressed of the simplicity of html code so far. But, baby steps first, right?

This is Mae Moony-- out.

More Happiness Please

Bob Dylan once wisely said, "A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and gets to bed at night, and in between he does what he wants to do."

I've read quite a few things like this in my life time I guess. But at the time I'd read this particular quote I assure you that I was not on my way to living a happy life. I was in college for all the wrong reasons-- pursuing a degree that I was uncertain would matter to me-- and slushing from one day to the next. So, upon reading this randomly on the internet one day, I decided that I would never do anything I didn't really love or enjoy in some small way at least.

(Funny how clicking links on the internet can lead you to changing your whole outlook on life.)

Anyway, that next semester I changed my Major(s) to Advertising and Photography. Practical, yet, something that I actually like. And though I am not exactly sure that I am in college for all the right reasons still... ... ...at least I am doing something... ... ...that is fun!

When I found out this class [Web Design] was dedicated to making a personal website of any nature, I immediately knew that I wanted to design it for my photography. Thus! To share my images and imagination with the world.

Ironically, I had started looking at photo websites many months ago and I'd gathered some other alternatives or additives to the way this website would function. Ultimately, I'd like to have one section of my website function as a portfolio for my work, and the other half function as an interactive photo database. An interactive photo database usually includes directions for an audience where after the audience participates by posting their digital images in response or according to the directions. Similarly to some other artist websites that are still active to this day. There's not much more to add to that except that I'm extraordinarily excited to see my ideas take off.

[You Killed My Father] Prepare To Type!

Today I learn much about how ze internet people get things on the internet and how they are super awesome with le typing skills.

For instance: how does Inigo Montoya's face (such a fantastic face) get around the google images so much? It is easy! When making a html web page you simply type in <img src"[insert file of sexy picture of Ignigo Montoya here]"> and it is done.

Now that is a happy face!

[Commentary On] The History of Le Interwebs: 8-SEP-11

You know what I find pretty interesting and not surprising at all? The Military has their hands in everything. Including the internet. Am I right or am I right? This kind of makes me wonder... do you think that the United States has their own blog? Let's check it out:

Google > Search Engine > "Does the United States military have a blog?" > Awwww yeah;

KACHING!

Back Away From Le Gameboy: 8-SEP-11

One thing you should know about me is that  I'm not tech saavy.

Technology and I have always had a friends-with-benefits type of relationship. To be truthful, I have abused it-- only ever using technology to satisfy my needs and not for any real commitment (this is all figurative of course). I think I've failed as a modern day teenager. And as most would post, this is definitely a fml moment. In fact, I’ve never completely understood new programs outside of photoshop or Microsoft Word-- especially since I grew up in a very small town where we only reached three channels on our television. I'm that kind of person that knows a ton about the 90s and a spec about the present day technologies. And although as a child I was bedazzled by new gaming systems: Playstation; floppy disks; Gameboy; those all seem ridiculous when you hold them up to a Wii or other game consols --not to mention the large online gaming world.

So being that I am nearly 20, almost to my senior year in college, I figured it was about time to learn about the grown up technological world. Meaning, sadly I need to put the gameboy down. Meaning, happily I am about to start utilizing these thousands of free programs for my own benefit and quite possibly to save the world.

Just kidding about the saving the world part.

But really, what I hope to get out of my CJ_279 Web Design class is a fairly evident. I'd like to have a gateway to the World Wide Web. And this is it.
